In June of 1975, Mrs. Wilson Reitz (Elsie) produced and directed an old time Minstrel show for the town of Bella Vista. Twelve women gathered to form a women’s chorus for the show, directed by Mrs. Wendell Miller (Marge). The group was so well received the Bella Vista Women’s Club sponsored a permanent chorus which has varied in size from the original twelve to over 40 members, participating in Hootenanny programs and community celebrations. We expanded our vision and became NORTHWEST WOMEN’S CHORUS .
Dr. Larry Zehring is only the 4th director and has brought the Bella Vista Women’s Chorus to new heights in his nearly 30 years at the helm, directing their first full concert in May of 1988.
In 2020, it was decided make our chorus more inclusive, to include the surrounding area. We became the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Chorus.
The Northwest Arkansas Women’s Chorus sings for many organizations, nursing homes and schools in the area, as well as having traveled to Natchez, MS, San Antonio, TX, St. Louis and Kansas City, MO, and even singing on the steps of the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
The Chorus has always sung a wide variety of musical selections for every taste, from oldies, gospel, Broadway musicals, patriotic and popular, to Mozart and the classics, as well as folk and novelty songs for to children.
